As anyone who knows me knows, I like music. However, unlike a lot of metalheads, I don’t like JUST metal. I like all kinds of things. I have some really strange things in my music collection. About the only two things I can say I will never listen to at all are “dog died country”, and “gangsta rap”, the latter of which has no redeeming value, IMO. Anyway, iTunes tells me I have a ton of music. All told, it says I have 12,111 items comprising 100.87Gb in all (as of June 24, 2013). It also says it would take me 36.8 straight days (with no break of any kind) to get through it all. Because there’s so much, I generally play what comes into my mind at any one time, or I listen to band playlists (which I’ve also talked about on my website and twitter feed before). However, every once in awhile I’ll make a run through the whole thing, and that’s what I’ve started again. On June 24, 2013 I decided to listen to EVERYTHING in my collection. Given this is the age of social media, I’ve decided to announce what I’m listening to – warts and all. I’ll be logging the items on twitter, and collecting the posts here. Alternately you can also go to this link which will show you the exact song I happen to be listening to at any moment. Given I have a full time desk job at home, I have a lot of time to listen to music. So while it won’t get done in 36.8 days (that would require zero sleep), I’ll make a dent in it during work. I’ve done this a few times before in the past, and used the process to weed out things that when I get to I think, “You know, I’m NEVER going to listen to his again – buh bye”. Someone on twitter already asked me – yes, I have iTunes in the Cloud – all backed up. :) Also, my entire CD collection is catalogued online, check it out if you care to.
LIVE TWITTER STREAM
This is a stream live from Twitter showing the most recent hashtags used for #listentoall – this will be everyone, not just me, but I picked a hashtag that was mostly dead when I started this, so traffic from others besides myself (or people replying to me about this) should be next to zero.
INDIVIDUAL SONGS
I’ve decided that I’m just gonna tweet full albums – or at least albums I have most of. There’s quite a few where I have just a single song from. I’ve decided I’m not tweeting the individuals, it’ll clog the channel too much, I think. I’ll just list those here. You’ll also notice I have some of my kids stuff mixed in here. :)

INDIVIDUAL DAY ARCHIVES
UPDATE: I kind of fell behind on this, because the manual creation of pages was too much work, but I didn’t want to throw away what I did. I’m still doing the project as of this update (Sep 23), but it’s all on Twitter. I’m working to automate this a bit more (and make it prettier), but in the meantime, I have links to individual days I’ve created pages for. I’m going this way, otherwise I’m gonna end up with like 500+ album twitter entries on this page, and that’s just too much. :)
I respect what you are doing. At last count I had more than 1,100 CDs ripped to mp3 of all different music. I can’t imagine the crap that’s there…
