Moscow Attendance

I got sent a question by a fan asking about the attendance at the Moscow gigs.  Here’s the question:

Moscow ’89 has always intrigued me. I know the story behind it and I’ve seen the concert…does anyone have an idea how many people actually saw the band in that 10 day run? I’d imagine attendance was huge being the new freedom that Russia was experiencing at the time.

I went and asked Neil Murray about it, since he keeps meticulous logs of shows and information about them.  Neil was kind enough to send me back the information.  Here’s his notes on attendance from these shows..

Neil: Note that at Moscow Olympic Stadium (a sports arena, not a stadium, really), apart from a few dozen VIPs at the front in armchairs, there was no-one on the arena floor, only in the seats in the ‘bleachers’ – the numbers would have been higher for the Moscow shows if they’d been allowed to fill the entire hall.

Neil also wanted to pass along these are his estimates, not any kind of official attendance.
