Ozzy Interview on XM

Today, the XM Satellite radio re-branded their “Boneyard” metal channel to be called “Ozzy’s Boneyard“.   As part of the initial launch, there was an interview with Ozzy where he talks about the Black Sabbath reunion now, as well as Tony Iommi’s cancer.  While I was unable to listen due to a personal comittment, a friend was able to, and sent me this report on what he heard.   Given what was said, it would appear that this was recorded after they went to England, but before Bill Ward was expected to arrive, and as such the “fracas” from the last few days was not mentioned.

The interview was broken up into a few segments, with about three songs played inbetween each segment.  Here’s John’s notes from the interview:

  • First Segment: They have 13 strong ideas, they are making demos, working on ideas – Geezer has been writing stuff. Tony’s on Chemo, said he’s been sick – has headaches – talked about Sharon’s cancer – said he’ll get through it – Tony went to Dr for enlarged prostate when they found other
  • Second Segment: on moving sessions to UK – said “Well its Hell, we all have individual managers” talks about how great Sharon is. Back on Tony – has monster riffs for the new stuff and was working in the studio today – says it sounds heavy, doomy and low-fi but there is some rock stuff on there as well – says Rick Rubin likes the 1st Lp and it will be few overdubs
  • Third Segment:  working with BS today vs solo – BS he’s part of a team, solo its his thing.  says he Geezer Tony and Bill are having a great time in the studio! (When was this recorded?!) says they goof around a bit not all work – Says he gets writers block – Tony never does – Talking about the old days they just played whatever they wanted and people took to it – Rick Rubin: greatest guy ever.
  • Closing Segment:   The tour: says he has no idea – says main goal is just to make a BS album – guy presses him on the tour, says over and over he doesnt know – mentions all including Bill again at the end, says they are just doing their thing, making a BS album – he’s freaked out to be back in Birmingham, staying at a hotel there – he works out every morning, host was talking about his paintings.

Summary bits..

  • They have 13 strong ideas, are in the studio working on putting the songs together.
  • Tony’s on chemo, sick – but working through it
  • Non-committal on tour plans, just concerned with making a Black Sabbath album.   The “non committal” thing might be why the tour dates have disappeared from the official site.
  • The fact Bill was mentioned twice leads me to believe perhaps this was recorded before Bill’s FB post and they were full well expecting him to show any day at that time.

Thanks to John Swanner for sending in the notes, having listened.  I believe I read where the full interview will be replayed a few times over the next few days.  Head over to SiriusXM’s website for more details on schedules.

I’m excited for this album. I’m not too worried about the Great Bill Ward Fracas, as last night while lying in bed I had a sudden feeling that everything would work out fine, No idea why. But I’m trusting my gut on this one for now.

  2. Monte Self says

    Says at end:
Rebroadcast: Sun 2/12 3:00 pm ET; Tues 2/14 11:00 pm ET
still hope lives on about something happening, at least an LP which would be great as long as Bill is in on it. !

  3. I really wish Geezer would say something on his website. I am not buying that statement from the Facebook page. I want to hear from Geezer and Tony. Sharon already posted a message on her Facebook stating, and rightfully so, that she is in no authority to fire or hire anyone in Sabbath.

  4. I think the real fab four need to take it one step at time, tonys health being the first step, then solve any issues and then put together a great studio album, then if everything is going fine with no problems, then talk about maybe a small tour, much rather have a great studio album in my paws then a tour.

    BLACK SABBATH IS BILL,TONY,GEEZER,OZZY

  5. SHARON SAYS SHE HAS NO AUTHORITY TO HIRE OR FIRE IN SABBATH— YES THAT PART IS TRUE BUT SHE DOES HOWEVER MANAGE OZZY SO I GUARANTEE SHE IS ASKING FOR BIG BIG MONEY BECAUSE THATS ALL SHE IS ABOUT .. YOU WANT OZZY IT WILL COST THIS MUCH ETC ETC ETC IT AMAZES ME HOW U CAN HAVE MILLIONS IN THE BANK,,, MILLIONS COMING IN AT A STEADY FLOW,,,,, AND MILLIONS ABOUT TO COME YOUR WAY FROM A REUNION AND YET YOU WONT GIVE ONE PERSON HIS DUE………IS THIS FOR THE FANS OR THE BANK ACCOUNTS??

  6. You did not miss much. Ozzy said he has not talked to Tony yet because he figured the chemo would make him feel bad. (They did not say when the interview was recorded.)

I don’t like the changes to the Boneyard. It should have been a new channel instead of changing the format of an existing channel.
You have to listen to Sharon and Ozzy’s ramblings every few minutes, some modern heavy metal related to Ozzy (Ozzfest), and frequent Sabbath/Ozzy.

Would make for a good channel but makes for a disappointing and annoying Boneyard format change.

  7. Well heven and hell was awesome with Dio,I ve a feeling that this so called reniun is all about money,I hope Im deadly wrong. And this is real but really I dont know. Since bills statement.

  8. Alex Rodriguez says

Bill Ward is part of the legend! without bill is not the same, if is about the money why sharon don’t hired another bass player so she could make more money! They need to understand that Black Sabbath is and always be Tony Iommi,Geezer Buttler,Ozzy Osbourne and “Bill Ward”! that’s what fans wants.

    • alex ,you are 1000% right without bill there is no sabbath ..no one drums like bill !!! without bill i will not buy the album or anything from sabbath ,
KEEP IT SABBATH !!keep bill on drums!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. Well, I’ve grown up listening to Black Sabbath’s Gems, I’m 31 now and they’re all over 60s !!!

All 4 have got fame, money, everything, now after 33 years, they’ve planned to make an album together…..I don’t know why Mr. Ward has been acting like this !!

I personally really do not think that Bill Ward doesn’t give even 1% SH*T about fans, if he did, he wouldn’t have said stuffs like that !! Feeling so, so sorry.

There’s nothing left for them to achieve…….the devoted fans all around the world want a new album, that’s it ! I know they are ENGLISH and have endless pride, but they have to think about their fans……..I’ve had endless respect for all 4, but Mr. Bill Ward has hurt me very badly. He shouldn’t have acted like this……he has to remember, he’s a SUPERSTAR and a superstar has to think twice before his each movement.

I hope and pray to Almighty for a quick & positive resolve of this Sh*t.

    LONG LIVE BLACK SABBATH.

  10. Well, my previous comment got deleted….. :(

I know they’re English and have endless pride, but they have to think about the feelings of their fans all around the world. There’s nothing left for them to achieve…..we all want an album from the original FOUR, that’s it……I don’t know why Mr. Bill Ward has been acting like this…..I’ve seen so many of Black Sabbath’s interviews where all 4 said that they’ve been like a family since their childhood…….there MIGHT be some misunderstandings HAPPENING among brothers, but this doesn’t mean all’s over……come on Mr. Ward, we all want u to join the Reunion Concert, DO NOT DO IT FOR YOURSELVES, DO IT FOR US. PLEASE.

  11. I got to see the original lineup twice, so I can die happy. Sure I would love to see them again but if it doesn’t happen, it doesn’t happen. I do wish they would put out another album because having their last album be Technical Ecstasy does not do their legacy justice. I like Rock’n’Roll Doctor and Dirty Women but that album sucks.

  12. Never Say Die! was the last album by the original line up!

  13. if the guys in sabbath read the posts here, let me offer the four of you this thought:
the beatles would love to record a new album and tour, but they can’t because two of them are dead.
led zeppelin would love to record a new album and tour, but one of them is dead.
the who would, too, but two of them are dead. pink floyd? two of them are dead.
black sabbath, for some inexplicable reason, still can do this–record and tour. but, for some other inexplicable rea$on($), they always seem to let some bull$hit get in the way. why not do something for the fans FIRST–record and tour. you can squabble about divying up the booty in court afterwards. do it before someone adds black sabbath to the ever-growing list of bands who can never do it again. dan rivard.

  14. Deep Purple want to record as well.

Oh wait, Ian Gillan does not want to.

IMHP Deep Purple are braindead without Lord and Blackmore.

Just a corpse hanging on to old glory.

I hope Black Sabbath will find a way to bow out with decency.

  15. you guys rock fuck what everyone else says, ive been with you since i was 9 im 46 now and still listening to your tunes every damn day, once again mikethegreeker@twitter.com,ozzy bite any heads of lately

  16. SabbathfanAaron says

None of you guys take into consideration that BILL WARD was the drummer for BS.HE CANT DO THE SKINS CAUSE OF HIS HEALTH.Even if he was in the lineup he wouldnt last through a whole set of songs. He is a legend and had his day but hes no more a drummer. He would never last a tour and probaly would have heart attack on stage, then what?Where would that leave BS and the tour?Caught in the middle and stuck in the inbetween trying to fscramble and find another drummer to fill in that is IF they could cntinue. They would probaly cancel the rest of the tour anyways.I dont agree with Brad wilk on the skins but BILL is finished no matter.
