  1. Dear Joe,

I wanted to write in with a concert review.

This was my seventh time seeing Sabbath in concert. My second time with Ozzy as their frontman. It was my wife’s first time, and she is a big sabbath fan. She especially loves Ozzy. Half the time I have been to a Sabbath concert, I have been too inebriated to remember the setlist (or most of it anyways). I don’t regret that, because I have had a good time, just like the band has had a good time in their lives. This time however, I decided to write it down as we went. The writing became messier as the night went on, but I managed to keep the set list intact! Anyways the set list was:

    1.War Pigs
    2. Into the Void
    3. Under the Sun
    4. Snowblind
    5. Age of Reason
    6. Black Sabbath
    7. Behind the Wall of Sleep
    8. Geezer bass solo/NIB
    9. End of the beginning
    10. Faeries Wear Boots
    11. Drum Solo/Iron Man
    12. God is Dead?
    13. Dirty Women
    14. Children of the Grave
    15. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath Intro/Paranoid (Encore)

Thank God for Andrew WK! my wife and I drove three hours to the show. I got off work a little early (my boss was understanding) and so I raced off from work, went to pick her up and we drove like mad to get to our hotel, drop off the dogs (wife won’t leave home without them) check in, then head off to the show. I was really glad they had Andrew WK as the opener, since when we arrived the opening act had finished, but Sabbath hadn’t started yet. So I can’t comment on how the opening act since I missed it, but I was sure glad there was an opener. We even had time to get me a beer and her a margarita, find our seats, and wait a couple before Sabbath showed up.

Ozzy did some weird noises to alert us of his coming, and the band started with War Pigs. That was very unexpected to me, I mean to start off with such a hit I thought it would be played later in the show. Of course with Sabbath, 40 years of albums and songs…they have so many hits that I guess that within the timeframe of a concert, its all loaded up with mega hits anyways. But I digress. One song I was really surprised they played was “Under the Sun” because I don’t think of that as a major hit, a concert song. I really like the song, so it was a positive surprise they played something more unexpected. Ozzy had great banter with the audience all night long, telling us to be “louder” and saying “I can’t f’n hear you” and such. He was surprisingly agile too, if you could believe it, more so than the last time I saw him with Sabbath which was ten years ago. He was jumping up and down, running about the stage…and of course throwing water on the audience. It was great to see Tony – this was my first time seeing him after the cancer deal. They played three new songs – age of reason, the end of the beginning, and God is Dead? I especially enjoyed God is dead? Geezer did this bass solo that led into NIB and it was really something. The band was great. Of course I was sad Bill wasn’t there, but you know you gotta take what you can get. I love all forms of Sabbath, so Bill or nor it was great – I hope they will do one more tour at least this time with Bill.

I thought the whole night was great, I thought they did really well, Ozzys voice was fine, the boys played great so no complaints at all. Just another great show.

    Sincerely,

    Brandon

  2. This was my first real concert I’d ever attended. Being the teenager that I am, it was quite hard for me to get the tickets. From the minute they went on sale on May 1st, I started saving up the money to get two tickets for my brother and I to go. My parents would never take me, so it was all up to me.

After months of pre-concert anxiety, I finally picked up the tickets just hours before the concert started, and we drove to the place in a matter of 20 minutes.

It took us about 40 minutes to find a freakin’ parking spot downtown, and we eventually had to beg the parking lot security man to let us into the lot. $20 for event parking next to the stadium?; we only had $12. But we begged our asses off and he let us in. What a nice guy.

We got into the stadium at around 7:50 and thought we’d missed 20 minutes of the concert, but Sabbath walked out on the stage at approximately 8:35.

After 40+ years of touring, Ozzy’s voice has endured. A nearly flawless vocal presentation, he only fell flat on the first verse of ‘Into The Void’ (but shaped up for the rest of the song), and the first couple lines of ‘Dirty Women.’ Otherwise, a near perfect performance. Tony and Geezer seemed like they were a perfect match for eachother. They’d be looking back and forth at eachother and smiling and whatnot; it was perfect chemistry between them.

Song highlights for Ozzy: War Pigs, Under The Sun, Black Sabbath, God Is Dead?
Song highlights for Tony: Age Of Reason, End Of The Beginning, Children Of The Grave.
Song highlights for Geezer: Into The Void, N.I.B, Fairies Wear Boots, Dirty Women.

Amazing concert. Amazing experience. Amazing Sabbath.

    Sincerely,

    Sam
